Microneedling is a treatment that stimulates the skin's natural repair processes using small, controlled needle pricks. The treatment sets off processes that contribute to the formation of collagen and remodelling of the skin tissue, which over time can give smoother skin texture and improved firmness.
Microneedling can help reduce the visibility of fine lines, uneven skin structure and certain types of scars. The treatment can also help improve uneven skin tone and reduce the visibility of certain forms of hyperpigmentation. Results vary depending on skin condition, pigmentation type, treatment depth and choice of treatment protocol. In some people microneedling can also worsen pigmentation, which is why an individual skin assessment is important before treatment.
Microneedling can also be used as part of the treatment of certain forms of hair loss, especially androgenetic hair loss. Here the treatment is used to stimulate the scalp, often in combination with other treatment. The effect varies, and microneedling is not suitable for all types of hair loss.
The results develop gradually over several weeks and months. For many, a course of 3–6 treatments is recommended, depending on the starting point of the skin or scalp and the desired result. The treatment is tailored individually after a professional assessment.
We use the latest technology from the Dermapen 4, which is very precise and gentle. The treatment is combined with active serums tailored to your skin condition that are needled into the skin for maximum effect, and we can treat the face, neck and body. The treatment can also be combined with a chemical peel for a more active and targeted treatment, which in some cases may give a little more downtime.
The treatment is not recommended if you:
We always carry out a thorough consultation and assessment before we start, so that you get a safe and tailored treatment.
Avoid tanning beds and intense sun exposure before the treatment. The skin should not be sunburnt or irritated. Let us know if you have recently been in the sun, or use retinol, acids or prescription skin products, so that we can give you tailored advice.
The skin may become red, tight and sore. Flaking may also occur, especially when microneedling is combined with a chemical peel. The extent depends on the treatment depth, which peel is used and how your skin reacts. Flaking can begin after two to three days and last for several days, but both timing and duration vary. Do not pick or scrub off loose skin.
Use a mild moisturiser that is suitable after the treatment and supports the skin barrier, in line with the advice from the practitioner. If you do not have a suitable product, we can help you find a suitable cream with us.
Take a break from retinol, exfoliating acids and other irritating skin products until the skin has healed and the practitioner recommends that you start again. Using them too early can irritate the skin. Avoid tanning beds and direct sun while the skin heals, and follow the advice you are given on sun protection and the use of SPF 50.
Contact us if you get increasing pain, marked swelling, blisters or other unexpected reactions.
A course of four to six treatments about four to eight weeks apart may be appropriate. The number of treatments and the interval are adapted to the condition of the skin, the purpose of the treatment, the treatment depth and any combination with a peel. The skin must have had time to heal before the next treatment. Results vary from person to person.
