Thread lift with MINT Lift®

A thread lift is a cosmetic treatment in which dissolvable threads are placed under the skin to give mechanical tightening of selected areas. At Beauty Medical we use MINT Lift® from South Korea, a series of absorbable PDO threads developed for thread lifting.

The treatment may be an option for those who experience early to moderate skin laxity and want some tightening without surgery. The result depends, among other things, on the condition of the skin, anatomy, treatment area and the type of thread used.

A thread lift is an invasive procedure that can cause side effects and complications. We therefore always carry out an individual assessment before any treatment.

What is a thread lift?

A thread lift involves placing dissolvable threads in the tissue beneath the skin using a suitable needle or cannula. MINT Lift threads have small barbs that anchor in the tissue and help lift and support the area in question.

At Beauty Medical we use MINT Lift® PDO threads. PDO stands for polydioxanone, a material also used in certain types of absorbable surgical sutures. The threads break down gradually in the body.

A thread lift is not the same as a surgical facelift. The treatment does not involve surgical removal of excess skin, and the tightening cannot be compared directly with the result of surgery.

Which threads does Beauty Medical use?

We use MINT Lift® from South Korea, a series of threads made of PDO. The construction of the threads, with small barbs, is designed to anchor in the tissue and provide mechanical support and tightening.

We are also certified in the use of Nordyx® threads, which are made of PLACL – a combination of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and polycaprolactone (PCL). This is a different material with different properties from PDO.

At Beauty Medical we have chosen to use MINT Lift PDO in our thread lift treatments. The choice of thread and technique must always be based on an individual assessment, the product's instructions for use and what is suitable for the treatment area in question.

Which areas can be treated?

Which areas can be treated depends on the type of thread, the product's intended use, anatomical factors and the practitioner's competence.

Relevant areas may include selected parts of the face, such as:

  • The jawline and lower face, in cases of early tissue sagging.
  • The cheeks, if the area and the condition of the skin are suitable for the thread in question.
  • Areas around the nasolabial folds and marionette lines, where tissue sagging may be part of the overall picture.

Not all areas are suitable for direct treatment with threads. During the consultation we assess which areas can be treated safely, and whether the product's instructions for use allow the intended use.

Who is a thread lift suitable for?

A thread lift may be relevant for those with early to moderate skin laxity who want some tightening without surgery.

The treatment may be considered if you have some tissue sagging along the jawline, in the cheeks or in the lower face, but not so much excess skin that a surgical facelift may be more appropriate.

A thread lift may be relevant if you:

  • Experience early laxity or tissue sagging in selected areas of the face.
  • Want to explore a non-surgical alternative for tightening.
  • Have realistic expectations of how much change the treatment can give.
  • Understand that the result is not permanent.

When is a thread lift less suitable?

A thread lift is not suitable for everyone. If you have significant excess skin or pronounced laxity, the effect may be limited. In such cases, an assessment by a plastic surgeon may be more relevant.

The treatment is also not necessarily the best option if your main concern is loss of volume, uneven skin texture or fine lines. Other treatments may be more appropriate, depending on what you want to improve.

At Beauty Medical we always assess the condition of the skin, anatomy, medical history and expectations before recommending treatment. If a thread lift is not considered suitable, we will inform you about relevant alternatives.

How does the treatment work?

Before treatment, an individual consultation is held in which we assess the treatment area, medical history, medication use, possible risk factors and expectations.

If the treatment is considered suitable, the procedure is planned on the basis of anatomy and the instructions for use for the thread in question.

1. Consultation and assessment

The practitioner assesses whether a thread lift is suitable for you and informs you about the procedure, expected result, possible side effects and complications.

2. Preparing the skin

The treatment area is cleansed and disinfected. The placement of the threads is planned based on the area to be treated and the chosen technique.

3. Anaesthesia

Local anaesthesia may be used when indicated and in accordance with the treatment method in question.

4. Insertion of threads

The threads are placed under the skin using a suitable needle or cannula. The treatment time varies according to the treatment area, the number of threads and the chosen technique.

5. Information and follow-up

After the treatment you receive advice on how to care for the area, which activities you may need to limit, and which symptoms to be aware of.

What can you expect from the result?

MINT Lift threads are placed under the skin to lift and support the tissue in the area in question. The mechanical lifting effect usually lasts about 12–18 months, but the duration varies from person to person.

In addition to the mechanical lifting effect, the threads can stimulate the body's natural tissue response and collagen formation around the threads. This process happens gradually and can continue after the immediate lifting effect begins to fade. Collagen contributes to the skin's structure and firmness, but the degree of stimulation and the visible effect vary from person to person.

The threads break down gradually in the body, while the face continues its natural ageing process. Over time, tissue sagging and wrinkles may therefore become more visible again.

It is important to have realistic expectations of the treatment. A thread lift does not give the same degree of tightening as a surgical facelift, and neither the result nor its duration can be predicted with certainty.

Possible side effects and complications

A thread lift is an invasive procedure. Side effects and complications can occur even when the treatment is performed correctly.

Possible side effects and complications include:

  • Pain, tenderness and swelling.
  • Bruising, redness and minor bleeding.
  • A feeling of tightness, or a stinging or pulling sensation.
  • Unevenness, small indentations in the skin or asymmetry.
  • Visible or palpable threads.
  • Displacement or prominent threads, or a thread coming out through the skin.
  • Infection, inflammatory reactions or delayed wound healing.
  • Reactions to the material or scarring.
  • Altered sensation or effects on nerves or blood vessels.
  • The need for medical treatment or correction if complications occur.

The risk varies with the type of thread, treatment area, technique and individual factors. The list is not exhaustive.

Contact the clinic if you experience symptoms you are unsure about. If you have increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, pus or other signs of infection, you should seek prompt medical assessment. In the event of acute or serious symptoms, contact the emergency medical service or emergency services.

What should you tell us before treatment?

Before the treatment it is important that you inform the practitioner if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Use medication, including blood thinners.
  • Have a bleeding disorder.
  • Have allergies or previous reactions to medical devices or anaesthetics.
  • Have autoimmune diseases or other relevant conditions.
  • Have an ongoing infection, inflammation or wound in the treatment area.
  • Have previously had treatments, implants or procedures in the area.
  • Have had problems with wound healing or scarring.

These factors are assessed individually. The treatment may have to be postponed or may be advised against. Do not stop prescribed medication without clearing this with your doctor.

After the treatment

The recovery period varies from person to person. Swelling, tenderness and bruising may occur, and you may experience a feeling of tightness in the treated area. Many people can resume light everyday activities relatively quickly, but it is important to follow the advice you receive from the practitioner.

You may, among other things, be asked to:

  • Avoid rubbing, massaging or putting unnecessary pressure on the treatment area.
  • Limit certain activities and movements for the period the practitioner recommends.
  • Follow the advice on skincare and sun protection.
  • Contact the clinic if you experience unexpected symptoms.

You will receive specific advice on aftercare and any follow-up in connection with the consultation and the treatment.

Thread lift price

The price depends on the treatment area, the number of threads and the extent of the treatment. You will be given the current price before any treatment. The need for treatment, and whether a thread lift is suitable for you, are assessed individually.
