OUR BEST TIPS FOR OILY SKIN

Oily skin is common. The shiny surface and the tendency to develop acne and blackheads are common with oily skin. But no worries! With the right care, oily skin can be kept in balance. Several of us who work at Beauty Medical have had, or have, problems with high sebum production. In fact, 85% of us have problems with high sebum production. In this post we will take a closer look at what causes oily skin and which products can help you regulate sebum production.
Why do some people get oily skin?
Oily skin occurs when the sebaceous glands in the skin produce too much sebum. This natural skin oil, which is important for preserving moisture and protecting the skin, can be overproduced due to various factors:
Genetics: Some people have a genetic predisposition to more active sebaceous glands, which can lead to oily skin throughout life.
Hormones: Hormonal changes, especially during puberty, pregnancy or the menstrual cycle, can affect sebum production and lead to oily skin.
Environmental factors: Warm and humid climates can stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
Wrong skincare routine: Using the wrong skincare products or over-cleansing can lead to a rebound effect where the skin produces more oil to compensate for the loss.
How to treat oily skin?
If you have oily skin, it is important to have a balanced skincare routine that helps regulate sebum production and reduce excess oil. Here are some tips that can help:
Cleanse the skin thoroughly: Choose a mild, oil-free facial cleanser that removes excess oil, dirt and impurities without drying out the skin.
Use a toner: An alcohol-free toner can help balance the skin's pH and reduce oil production.
Choose the right products: Use skincare products specially formulated for oily skin. Look for oil-free and non-comedogenic products containing active ingredients such as salicylic acid or glycolic acid, known for regulating sebum production and reducing acne.
Avoid excessive sun exposure: Excessive exposure to the sun can lead to an increase in sebum production. Use sun protection with broad-spectrum SPF to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.
Products that can help:
When it comes to finding the right products to tackle oily skin, it is always wise to look for reliable brands with good reputations. Here are some recommended products from ZO Skin Health and NOON Aesthetics that can help you regulate sebum production and give you healthier skin:
1. Cleanser*: Exfoliating Cleanser from ZO. An exfoliating cleanser that specifically removes excess sebum and other dirt that can clog the pores. Or Cosmo Clear from NOON, which contains acids that both remove dirt and sebum while moisturising the skin with lactic acid.
2. Scrub*: Dual Action Scrub from ZO: A scrub containing both physical and chemical exfoliants. Can be used on the face and body. Removes dead skin cells and excess sebum that can lead to clogged pores.
3. Pads*: ZO Skin Health Oil Control Pads: These pads contain a powerful combination of salicylic acid, glycolic acid and soothing botanical extracts. They help cleanse the pores, regulate sebum production and improve the skin's texture.
4. Intensive Hydrogel from NOON: Contains both lactic acid, which provides moisture, and salicylic acid, which is oil-soluble and therefore dissolves sebum. Thanks to the lactic acid the skin also gets moisture, which is hugely important - even when you have oily skin. The skin actually starts to produce MORE sebum if it lacks moisture. Intensive Hydrogel is a favourite with most of those who get help with products from us, as it balances your skin well between moisture and sebum regulation.
- Cleanser, scrub and pads from ZO alone will reduce your sebum production by a full 40% in 4 weeks!
